So today was a pretty nice day at work...relatively relaxing, no problems, all okay...so, I had a nice day, it was easy and everything...8 hours over...do a little grocery shopping (as well as drop by the liquor store to pick up a 6-pack)...come home...and BAM!
I check dA (because it really IS the first thing I look at when I get to a computer)...and I read my messages and I notice adonihs has a journal up saying "RIP Heath Ledger"...as I'm thinking, "WTF are you smoking, boy?"...anyways, so I click it...and he starts talking about how Heath Ledger was found dead in his apartment...at this point, I'm still not completely believing it but he has a link to MSNBC so I check that out...and, am truly shocked at the news.
God, this is a truly sad day...
If anyone has talked to me in the past year or so and even remotely mention movies, I would've gone on a 2 hour rave about how much I think Ledger is the greatest Joker to have ever lived (his tone of voice, his accent, his laughter, his lisp...all done to perfection). I mean, his role as the Joker is going to be what defines the Joker in the future...because this IS the greatest portrayal of the Joker ever done...to absolute perfection. To us geeks, Ledger has created an iconic character that's going to be irreplaceable...and after witnessing his incredible ability at merging with this character (which Jack Nicholson failed at, miserably), I was truly looking forward to future roles from this aspiring actor...and, having heard the news, I am deeply saddened.
Rest in peace, Heath Ledger.
My prayers to you and your family.

Suggestion for Website URL
I'm itching to sign up again for a webhost...there's even a REALLY nice sale on lunarpages.com as well...it'll be on for another 2 days.
But, first, I need an address. I mean, I don't even know what to call it!
I sorta don't want to use "jtranstudios.com" because I think I overdo the whole "J-Tran" thing WAYYYY out of proportion...and I'm gonna slowly move away from using this screen name.
But yeah...I need suggestions on a name for a website. PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Desperate for some ideas!
I'm trying to think up something that could have double meanings, or a pun, or something...something that sounds SMRT (clearly over my level of inte
Baltimore Comicon Sept 27-28
Just wanted to say that I'll be attending the Baltimore Comicon again this year. Anyone who live in the area, come hang out with me!!!
I won't have a table or anything (God, can't even dream of being able to afford one of those or sitting beside the GODLINESS of someone like Jim Lee or David Finch).
Anyways, this is a list of the guests that they're having this year.
Main Attraction:
-Jim Lee: If you don't know who Jim Lee is, then I guess reading this entire journal is rather pointless. LOL! One of the founders of Image Comics, currently works as head of Wildstorm, which is a branch of DC Comics. Most known for Wildcats and drawing the B
Otakon 2008
Otakon was...amazing!
This year was once again, another truly fun experience. I swear, Otakon doesn't disappoint!
Okay, first and foremost, I just wanted to say that...if there was nothing else, the Udon panel on Saturday made the ENTIRE con worth going to. If you missed it, then...you REALLY missed out...alot. Whether you're an artist or a fan, Omar Dogan's speech regarding art and the development of style was one of the most inspirational speeches I've EVER heard on this topic.
Okay, first and foremost, let me start by saying that I'm a huge fan of Udon. I LOVE their styles and truly believe they are some of the best anime-styled artists
Otakon or NO-takon Artist Alley
So...in the middle of my mad rush to finish up projects, I decide to check my email...and, I got one from Otakon staff saying that a table has opened up...
Okay, I'm sorta in a love-hate kinda state-of-mind right now...since I've basically "accepted" the fact that I didn't get a table (they sent me an email a few months ago saying that I didn't sign up in time) so...that pretty much means that I made no preparations whatsoever!!! ARRGHHHH!!!
You can only imagine how peeved I am right now...because I'm stuck with 2 difficult predicaments.
First off, I have ZERO prints available (exception of the left-over ones from last year...which I doubt

Amen.
Except the "perfect joker" part. I'm going to withold judgement on that til I see the movie.
As far as comparing Ledger's joker to Jack's... well... I have to disagree in that I think Jack made an excellent Joker. Especially if you take the original Batman film for what it was. (we'll just ignore the subsequent ones, lol)
In that one, yes, the Joker did bad things, but if he killed in the movie (it's been a while since I've watched it, so please forgive my memory), it was more centered something along the lines of "yeah, he'll go that far if he has to...." or "he doesn't mind it..." and the real murderousness of the Joker was never played up or focused on.
So I think Jack's portrayal of the personality of the Joker was fairly spot on, but without the context/focusing on of the true homacidal maniac aspect of the character, I can see how you'd think that OVERALL, the portrayal was rather poor. But in the context of the original movie itself, I think he did a fantastic job.
Many people who don't read comics, haven't read comics for years and years and years, and/or don't read comics often don't necessarily know or fully grasp that of all the DC villains, the Joker really IS a truly homicidal maniac who kills pretty much at will, just because he CAN. They don't know or realize just how dark the character of the Joker really is. So in the original movie, keeping that central part of the character in a "popular superhero/comic book" movie, for the time, just wasn't probably a good idea.
With Batman Begins, however, what we have is a true shift in thinking. It was not a movie catered to everyone the same way the original Batman was. With BB, we have a comic book movie that is not only actually REALLY good, but has come about in a time where even people who don't read comics are much more accepting of the truly DARK nature of some of the villains, and even heroes like Batman (his hanging the dude from the window being a prime example as well as his comment of "I'm not going to kill you. But I don't have to save you" to Ras). We've finally come to a point where "comic book movies" aren't necessarily feel-good superhero flicks, and that's OK. So the new batman movie focusing on and getting back to the really dark roots of the character, I think, is going to be fascinating, even refreshing. And from what I've seen, I think Ledger will do a fantastic job, but comparing his Joker to Jack's Joker is going to be a little bit like comparing Thunder Mountain to whatever "ultimate" roller coaster you want to mention. Sure, the "ultimate" one is, well, the ultimate, which makes Thunder Mountain pretty much suck, but given the context, it's still a damn good little roller coaster.
Um,yeah... sorry, I didn't mean to get into a whole dissertation, but... well... there ya go. LOL.
